History of Woorim

With a rich history dating back to the traditional custodians of the land, the name 'Woorim' was chosen for the settlement, which comes from an Aboriginal word for kangaroo.

In The Second World War, the suburb played a vital role in Australia's defence strategy. As part of the coastal defence, Fort Bribie was established on the island, comprising gun emplacements and searchlight batteries. Today, Woorim stands as a peaceful coastal suburb, but the remnants of its wartime past serve as a reminder of its historical significance.
