History of Wamuran
Wamuran is named after local Aboriginal man Menvil Wamuran, also known as Jacky Delaney. The area was settled by timber cutters and selectors in the 1880s, and new selectors moved into the region in the early 1900s, planting bananas. The opening of the railway line in 1909 improved access to Brisbane markets and led to the district being named Wamuran. The town experienced growth in the fruit-growing industry, particularly with bananas. Today, Wamuran is known for its fresh strawberries and pineapples, which visitors can purchase directly from selected farms.
