History of Sandstone Point

Sandstone Point has a rich historical background. The area was originally known as Toorbul Point, and was once an assembly place for members of the Ningy Ningy Aboriginal clan. The word "Toorbul'' or "Turrbal" was first learned by Nundah missionaries in 1841, and refers to the bora ground south of Bestman Road.

During World War II, Sandstone Point served as an allied amphibious training base, highlighting it as a strategically important location during the war. In 1995 a monument was erected to commemorate the Australian and American personnel who trained in the area while serving.
