Year 7 Information Morning

Starting high school is an exciting milestone, but it can also feel like a big step. Year 7 students are adjusting to new routines, new teachers, new classrooms, new friendships and greater independence. At ACC Southlands, we don't assume every student will find the transition easy straight away. Instead, we intentionally provide the support, structure and relationships students need as they settle into secondary school.

Our Year 7 Information Morning is an opportunity for families to see how ACC Southlands helps students feel known, supported and ready for the next stage of their learning.

Why attend the Year 7 Information Morning?

Choosing a high school is about more than subjects, buildings or timetables. For many families, one of the biggest questions is:

Will my child be okay?

At ACC Southlands, the transition into Year 7 is supported through intentional programs, caring teachers and a school community that values each student.

At the Year 7 Information Morning, families will have the opportunity to learn more about:

  • How students are supported as they move from primary school to high school
  • The role of Pastoral Care in helping students feel known and supported
  • Orientation, community-building activities, excursions and Year 7 Camp
  • Year 7 subjects and learning opportunities
  • How teachers and parents work together during the secondary years
  • What day-to-day life looks like for a Year 7 student at ACC Southlands

High school is a big step. Students don't take it alone.

The start of high school can be exciting and daunting at the same time. Students are learning the routines of secondary education while also connecting with new students and teachers.

At ACC Southlands, Year 7 students are supported through a caring and structured learning environment. Students take part in orientation week, a comprehensive Pastoral Care program, community-building activities, excursions and Year 7 Camp.

These experiences are designed to help students settle in, build friendships, grow in confidence and understand what it means to be part of the secondary school community.

Students who are known, safe and supported

ACC Southlands believes that when students are well known, safe and supported, quality learning can take place.

Relationships are at the heart of the secondary school experience. Teachers set clear and consistent boundaries, model healthy communication and help students develop positive relationships with others.

Pastoral Care teachers also maintain close contact with parents, helping ensure students are well known by the school and that parents are informed about their child's academic, social and emotional progress.

For Year 7 families, this means the transition to high school is not left to chance. Students are surrounded by people and programs designed to help them take this next step.

Hear from current Year 7 students

As part of preparing for this event, we asked current Year 7 students to reflect on their experience of starting high school.

  • "The teachers are really supportive and they listen."
  • "Everyone is really nice and encouraging, and you'll make lots of friends."
  • "You get way more opportunities."
  • "It might feel scary at the start, but the teachers and students are welcoming and encouraging."

These comments reflect what many families hope for as their child begins high school: support, friendship, encouragement and new opportunities.

What Year 7 looks like at ACC Southlands

Year 7 at ACC Southlands gives students the opportunity to grow academically, socially and personally.

Students study a broad range of subjects, including English, Maths, Science, Humanities and Social Sciences, Health and Physical Education, Mandarin, Emergency Services Cadets, Digital Technology, Design and Technology, Visual Art, Music, and Wisdom, Faith and Life.

Alongside classroom learning, students are supported through pastoral care, community-building experiences and opportunities that help them build confidence and connection.

Our Year 7s are a team. Whether they are working hard in Maths, playing hard in Physical Education, heading off on camp or learning something new, they are in it together.
